Tiny Houses Communities In Rhode Island

There are many different types of tiny house communities. Some are resorts filled with those looking to get away, while others are intentional living communities that you can live in full time. There aren’t currently any tiny house villages in Rhode Island that we know of, but check out these communities in neighboring states.

Boiceville Cottages

Bruno Schickel designed and started building Boiceville Cottages in 1996, inspired by the illustrations in a children’s book he read to his daughter. Today, it’s a lively community in Brooktondale made up of 140 tiny houses, two pet-walking parks, and a busy community meeting house with a gym and full-sized kitchen. A short drive, bus trip, or cycle to Cornell University and Ithaca College, Boiceville is ideal for students and those who work at the universities.

The community is multigenerational, with a real neighborhood vibe — everyone knows and cares about each other. All apartments are wheelchair accessible, and if any special modifications are required, management will take care of it. They also take care of the grass, snow, trash, and grounds. The tiny houses are designed to be efficient and low cost, making them an attractively affordable option for anyone interested in a greener, low-cost lifestyle.

Less than an hour away, Boiceville Cottages’ second location, La Bourgade on Seneca, is situated on the hillside of Seneca Lake and has only 40 tiny houses for a more intimate, village-style living experience.

Village Hill Cohousing

Located in Northampton, Massachusetts, Village Hill is an intentional living community for those who want to live simply with others. Established in 2019, the community is made up of 28 individual dwelling units. The community is near many walking and bike paths and bus routes, which makes it a quality community for eco-minded members who want to live an off-grid lifestyle.

Members of Village Hill have access to shared facilities including a common house, garden, large kitchen, and play areas. They share core values such as creating an ecologically sustainable neighborhood of beauty and peace while they support one another. They also encourage healthy living, wellness, kindness, compassion, and personal growth.
