It can be a tricky to organize your small bathroom in a way that is conducive to your daily routines, especially when space is your enemy. However, with a little creativity, organizing a small bathroom can be a cinch.

Hi, I’m Ryan
I’ve lived in a tiny house for the past 10 years and have had to be really intentional with the way I organize my rooms. I’ve learned to organize my tiny bathroom in a way that works for my morning and night routines and leaves me feeling refreshed.
Simple Steps To Start Organizing Your Small Bathroom
In a small bathroom, it’s easy for things to become cluttered quickly. With so many medicines, bathroom and shower products, and toiletries to keep track of, it can be tempting to just throw it all in our cabinets and drawers without a second thought.
However, it’s truly worth it to set yourself up for success each day by organizing your bathroom in a way that works best for you. I like to have the items I use every day right at my fingertips to make my morning shower and shave routine a breeze.
Step One: Start With Your Bathroom Countertops
This means it is going to be super tempting to fill your counter space with those bathroom essentials. Don’t do it! Countertops are not storage, and filling them up with products will only make your small bathroom feel even smaller. When organizing, take everything off of your countertops and start from scratch.

Step Two: Dig Clutter Out From Bathroom Cabinets And Drawers
Take everything out of the your drawers and cabinets. And yes, I mean everything! You won’t be able to fully organize your small bathroom effectively without getting everything out of those nooks and crannies.

Step Three: Declutter The Bathroom Products You Never Use
Once you have everything sorted, dive into the decluttering process. It’s important to get rid of everything you never use before you start to organize to give you optimal room in your small bathroom.
You definitely don’t need to keep empty bottles, old makeup, expired medications, and other outdated products around. This is also a great time to declutter accessories you never wear and products you just don’t use in your daily life.
When I was decluttering my small bathroom in my tiny house, I used the Four Box Decluttering method. I love this method because it is always effective yet so simple to make happen.
Step Four: Categorize Items By Their Purpose in Your Daily Routine
This is vital to making your morning and nightly routines stress free, especially if you’re limited by space.
I’ve found that the best way to categorize items in any room is to [BOLD] sort your items by the specific purpose they serve. That way, when you go to look for your favorite face wash or hair product, you know exactly where to look and don’t waste any time.
Essentials Categories | Essentials List |
---|---|
Daily Toiletries | Toothbrush and toothpaste, floss, mouthwash deodorant, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, exfoliant, eye cream, moisturizer, lotion |
Essential Supplies In A Bathroom | Mirror, wastebasket, hand soap, bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, non-skid bath mat, toothbrush holder, toilet paper |
Personal Care Tools | Hair brush, curling iron or straightener, hair dryer, hair spray, nail clippers or manicure set, scale, perfume or cologne, tweezers, makeup, shaving cream and razor, grooming scissors |
Shower Supplies | Shower curtain, shower liner, shower rings, shower caddy, suction baskets and shelves, shower speaker |
Bath Items | Bubble bath, bath salts, candles or essential oil diffuser, bathrobe, slippers |
Extra Necessities | Medications, tampons and pads, travel-sized toiletries, extra storage products, extra linens |
Cleaning Products | Toilet brush and container, plunger, surface cleaner, stain remover, disinfectant wipes, microfiber towel, rubber gloves, shower squeegee, mop, broom and dustpan, glass cleaner |
Step Five: Intentional Placement Of Items In Your Small Bathroom
Put items together that serve the same purpose and keep them in locations that make sense. If you use a product every single day, put it in the most accessible spot. Items you keep around for guests can go farther from the front of your cabinet. You get the picture.

Organization Guide For Each Room Of Your Home
Tips And Tricks For Organizing A Small Bathroom
When trying to organize your small bathroom, it’s important to think about the little things you can do to be creative with the space you do have and make the most of your morning and nightly routine.
1Try Doubling Your Shower Rods
This is one of my favorite tricks ever for bathroom organization. Invest in two shower rods for your shower and use the front rod for your shower and liner, while using the back rod to hang items like a foot scrub, a loofah, or a lightweight shower caddy. You can literally use the air as storage with this method.
2Use The Back Of Your Bathroom And Cabinet Door
Utilizing the backs of doors is one of the best ways to make the most of a small space. Whether it be hanging towels on the back of your bathroom door or hair styling products to the back of your bathroom cabinet, the backs of doors are vast spaces to use when low on room.
3Be Strategic With How You Store Your Towels
Towels can take up a lot of space in a small bathroom. Just a couple of thick, stacked towels can take up an entire shelf in a bathroom cabinet! When it comes to storing towels, try back of door rods, corner baskets, ladders, or even shelves over the door to take up less space.

4Use A Small Hutch For Outside Storage

5Hang Floating Shelves And Baskets On The Wall

6Use A Standing Ladder To Hang Bathroom Essentials

7Invest In Cordless Styling Tools And Products
Cords might not be something you initially think of when it comes to bathroom clutter, but there are a lot of items we use every day to get ready that have a cord. Hair dryers, straighteners, toothbrush chargers, curlers, and even an extra phone charger.
It’s worth it on the front end to invest in cordless products to clear your counterspace, especially when those items are often plugged in right next to your sink.
8Install Magnetic Storage Strips
Using magnetic strips is a must in a small bathroom. You can slap tweezers, razors, scissors, nail clippers, and more right on the wall instead of letting them pile up in your makeup bag or bathroom drawers.
