Learning how to farm my property by creating a 3 acre homestead layout to grow, produce, and raise livestock on my own land was hands down one of the best choices I’ve made.

There’s nothing I love more than a hot dinner fresh from the grill, and developing this 2.5 acre homestead layout has enabled me to harvest all of the fresh fruits and veggies I love to use in my cooking.

I would have loved having more access to practical design tips at the beginning of my homesteading journey, so, since the 1.5 acre homestead layout I created on my own land has worked so successfully, I decided to share some of the tips I’ve learned along the way to help fellow homesteaders speed up their creation process.

My decision to start a mini farm on my own land by designing this 1 acre homestead layout came after I had simplified my belongings and my life to the limits of a tiny home. I knew I wanted to raise some animals and grow my own food, but I also knew that I’d need to have a carefully laid out plan to follow so that I could keep living the simple way I liked while expanding my homestead.

There’s just something so satisfying about growing my own food in my backyard. Learning how to make the maximize space, like on this ¾-acre homestead layout, is one of my favorite accomplishments to date. Even in a confined space, raising chickens and growing crops on my own land has brought a new level of sufficiency and confidence into my life.
