Pull Out Table

This just came across my desk and I was blow away at how simple and obvious it was, yet it had never occurred to me.  The three draws make up a table and two seats.  I think it would be neat to make the table top a butcher block so you could use it as an extended counter top and make it a counter top cutting board. The other trick with this is to get casters and hardware that are designed for heavy load limits because you will be sitting on it.

  1. Haha, forget that the table is set as you open the top drawer has to be a good time. Cool design though!

    • Great idea! I would include drop down, fold up legs for the table and seats. I’m not a big person. I just think it would add strength, stability and peace of mind without taking up additional space.

  2. Awesome idea! I like the idea of adding fold-out legs, though, because chances are the support wood around it (if the other drawers are real) isn’t strong enough to support a lot of weight over a long period of time.

  3. The top drawer above the table could also extend….pop into place…meeting and matching the counter top to make more workspace and double as a bar…

  4. I agree, fold-up legs would help with stability. If the tops folded out, too, it could actually be a dining table for 4 coming out of a sideboard – great for those who don’t actually entertain every day of the week!

  5. I have built in the butcher block table version in kitchens and hutches on numerous occasions but never the seat. Great idea. Any woodworking supply will be able to provide heavy duty ball bearing slides for this that will have a more than sufficient load bearing. You will not find it at Home Depot though! Make sure cabinets are sturdy too…

  6. With this particular design, I’m pretty sure I would be scraping my knee on the table and my calf on the chair every time I sat down and got up, with the way the drawer fronts are sticking out.

  7. Nice! It saves space and adds an element of style to the kitchen of a tiny house. I agree about adding a leg extension on both the seats and table top for added support and stability.

  8. The Idea of the three drawers make up a table and two seats can be extended to the closer drawers in the bedroom as reading or study table. As for strength the drawers can be made out of stainless steel.

This design would also be great for a tiny house version of a shipping container house from Canada.

  9. I can imagine how to design it strong enough to not need legs. All you need do is not assume that it is standard cabinetry construction.

  10. im trying to make a table that i could hook it to my medal bunk bed that i could slide it out from under my bed then pull it up do you know where i could see how to make one
