The Tiny House Conference has come to a close and it was an amazing weekend that was a ton of fun. As always, all the tiny house folks were amazing people who were excited to be there. We had over 350 folks descend on Portland for a great weekend of sessions, house tours and connecting.
Today I wanted to do a post that shows some of the behind the scenes of the conference.
We had a lot of badge; 407 in all for the attendees, volunteers, staff, speakers, and media. It took me literally 5 hours to punch out the name cards and insert them into the badges.
We got ready for the big day by laying all the badges out:
We also found ourselves in some shenanigans. Kristie trying to sneak onto the roof:
Zack and Vincent learning a new way to tie their shoes:
We had a really long day on Friday getting ready, some of us were fading fast. Amy being exhausted:
Caroline taking a nap:
We took a lot of photos, Christopher Tack was our photographer:
We also shot a lot of videos. Jenna and Guillaume:
Vincent and Zack, our amazing video guys:
My parents came out to support me, they manned The Tiny Life’s table and got to talk to a lot of people:
I am really excited to share some big news, the makers of Sketchup are going to be sending a team of folks to the Tiny House Conference to help run training sessions at the conference! The 2015 Conference will be in Portland, OR April 18-19th 2015 (details here). For those of you who don’t know, Sketchup is a free 3D design program that is perfect for designing your tiny house. Many people already know about it, but for those of you who don’t, it’s a tool you need to learn. It will be your go to tool in designing your tiny house.
So at the conference we are having two sessions on Sketchup. The first will be run in conjunction with one of our speakers, James, he is a master with Sketchup having helped draw up Macy Miller’s very popular tiny house and plans.
The next session is going to be a bonus session that I haven’t had a chance to announce, it just got put on the calendar. This will be with the experts from Sketchup, showing you how to do things, answering questions and getting hands on with the software to design a tiny house.
One of the most rewarding things about putting on the Tiny House Conference is the amazing things that come out of it. I’ve met so many amazing people, have had a chance to see so many tiny houses and recently I learned that many people who came to the Tiny House Conference left inspired and started building! Today I wanted to show you two houses that were built by people who came and learned all about tiny houses at the conference!
The first house is built by Jody and Bill who came to the conference. Jody and Bill knew tiny houses were for them, but wanted to come to the Conference to learn all the details, see all of the tiny houses we had on site to tour and talk with our speakers who have built and lived in tiny houses themselves.
Here is the house Jody and Bill built:
The next attendee that built a house was Mark. He came to us all the way from Alaska! Soon after attending, he began building his tiny house which has been his cozy home ever since, even in the harsh winters of Alaska.
Here’s his house:

I just stumbled upon a series of four videos shot by an attendee of the Tiny House Conference of the 2014 conference in Charlotte. I had no idea he had shot these videos, but it was super fun to watch an outside perspective. Dale toured four tiny houses and shows you the inside of them, plus gives some commentary at the end of the first video. These were great so I wanted to share and I wanted to thank Dale.
It is the final hours for early bird tickets to the Tiny House Conference! Registering by the end of the day on Oct 1st will save you $50 off the regular admission price. The Conference will be held in Portland, OR April 18th and 19th 2015. For more details check out our website at www.tinyhouseconference.com
Below are some videos of speakers from last year, some of whom will be presenting again!
